Tunnels Beaches Wedding Photography
Epic photography telling the story of your wedding day in Devon with natural unposed moments and dramatic seascapes
Tunnels Beaches is the most incredible exclusive wedding paradise by the sea in Devon. As a photographer I just love Tunnels Beaches, it has to be one of my favourite wedding venues for photography, as thew light is always incredible, and the opportunities for amazing portraits at sunset or in golden hour are endless. The anticipation as you walk through the tunnel, to feel the cool salty sea breeze on your face, and then there it is, carved out of the rock, above its own private beach, with magnificent views out to sea. It really is the perfect venue for a beach wedding by the sea. It’s why I just can’t stop coming back, and have now shot over 20 weddings at Tunnels, and each and every one was totally unique.
You can find me regularly appearing in the photos on the Tunnels Beaches Instagram feed, If you are getting married at Tunnels Beaches, and looking for a highly experienced wedding photographer, then do give me a shout, as one of the venue’s recommended suppliers I’d love to be back again, with the sand between my toes!

Wedding photography at Tunnels Beaches
Tunnels Beaches matches my photography style perfectly, with dramatic skies, beautiful light, and magnificent sunsets. Tunnels Beaches is unique in that it is a venue which was purpose built for weddings, with three levels, a terrace, and of course the beach, which makes the transition between each part of the wedding day seamless, and the team who work there are second to none. Whether you want a wedding ceremony indoors or out, there are easily changeable options for both, and with the fire pit and a range of options for an incredible seafood barbeque, Tunnels Beaches is the bespoke venue you can make your own on the day, and this is one thing I love, the fact that very single wedding is completely unique to the bride and groom.
I have photographed many weddings at Tunnels Beaches, through the seasons from Spring to Autumn, and I have experienced the full range of weather too. One thing you always find at Tunnels Beaches though is that the weather clears from the west, and therefore stunning sunsets are not uncommon. Of course, the weather in October may not be as bright, warm and sunny as the summer, but it is still stunningly beautiful, perhaps more so!

Planning the perfect photography coverage
Whenever I photograph a wedding at Tunnels Beaches, I work closely with you as the bride and groom to plan the photography, to make the most of access to the tidal pool, and sunset too, as the beach and the venue change through the day. I know how and when the tidal pool appears and use the latest weather and tidal information to help plan when are the best times for photography on your day. These little details are what makes the big difference to your wedding day, and the photography too. I can also provide aerial drone photography to really showcase your wedding venue and the expanse of sea around it. With an exclusive beach on the Devon Coast overlooking Lundy Island and the Bristol Channel, there are opportunities to paddle in the sea on your wedding day, or just admire the sunset as you wander round the tidal pool. A sparkler exit in the tunnel is the perfect way to finish the day.
Your first dance as a married couple
If you want to have your first dance outside, overlooking the beach at sunset, then why not! Tunnels Beaches is perfectly set up for this, with the large terrace for guests to congregate, and music coming from the speakers on the terrace. I have photographed many first dances this way, balancing the sunset and dramatic spotlit flash, and I’m proud to have won awards for several of these images.

The History of the Ilfracombe Tunnels Beaches
In the 1820’s, the Victorians were big on the health benefits of bathing by the sea, and four tunnels were carved through the cliffs in Ilfracombe by the Ilfracombe Sea Bathing Company, employing hundreds of Welsh miners to provide access for Victorian bathers to otherwise inaccessible beaches, by horse drawn carriage. The tunnels gave access to two separate beaches, one for men, and one for ladies, with a large tidal pool designed to maintain the level of water at low tide, which still exists today, and forms the tidal pool which is a joy to walk around on your wedding day. Times are different now of course, in Victorian times, they even employed a bugler, who would sound his horn if men dared to attempt to stray and spy on the ladies!
