Nestled in the Dorset countryside, St Giles House is an incredible place, the ancestral home of the Earl of Shaftesbury which has been lovingly restored back to it’s former glory. When Jenni and Alex told me of their plans to get married there, I just had to agree to be their wedding photographer!
To step in to the grounds and building is to step back in time – partially derelict until a few years ago, rather than rebuilding, every detail has been painstakingly restored, including the original paint and wallpaper, revealing gorgeous warm tones, and history wherever you look – it is a photographers paradise. The light is incredible, and I love this place, only a stones throw from my own home.
As a well know DJ formerly based in new York, the Earl has turned the cellar below into an incredible undergound nightclub, which as to be seen to be believed, a completely unique party venue. Yet venture upstairs, and you would never know it was there.
Jenni and Alex’s day was relaxed and focused on family, and it was lovely that the whole wedding party walked to the church in the grounds, so the day was much more enjoyable rather than having to travel, with more time to relax, and enjoy.
The day finished late with some portraits of Jenni and Alex and the infamous statue of Eros which takes pride of place outside the house, this statue was made in conjunction with the one at Piccadilly Circus, and it is said that the arrows of each point to each other. The history of this stunning venue is amazing when you delve a little deeper!
As always, I’ll let the photos tell the story!
