Masters of Light – The Workshop

Photography by definition means to ‘draw with light’ – yet light is often overlooked as one of the most critical elements of photography. Understanding and mastering light is an art, but once you ‘see’ light, the understanding remains with you for a lifetime. Led by two leading masters of light – Natalie Martin and Robin Goodlad, this workshop’ will give you a deep understanding of the core skills of photography, seeing light, predicting light, and also adding light where needed in perfect balance to create incredible photos with drama and depth.

Natalie and Robin have unique styles, but also share a common goal as ‘masters of light’ in searching for the best light for every image, whether using natural or created light, and both believe in utilising light in the best possible way, and this shared love of light being the core element of photography is how this workshop was born.

Masters of Light – Glencoe is the first in a series of exciting workshops focusing upon the core elements of photography – Light, Composition, and Moment. We are firm believers that only by truly understanding the trilogy does it become possible to be a complete wedding photographer, adaptable to any situation. While the focus of the workshop is light, we will also focus on how composition and moment contribute to creating perfect well balanced images, to give participants a firm grounding to approach any situation.

Mastering Light

The focus of the workshop is to give you the skills to really master light, and will cover the following, mostly outdoors on location, with some indoor theory sessions:

  • Understanding the variables of light – size, distance, hard and soft.
  • Tricks and tips for finding and anticipating the best light with pre-planning and on the day.
  • Using modifiers.
  • Using flash creatively to replicate or accentuate natural light.
  • Simple and effective posing and direction for couples for authentic portraits.

It is also a unique opportunity to learn everything about how Natalie and Robin approach shooting a wedding day. All participants have access to a shared Facebook group for continued advice, support and critique following the workshop.

The Experience in Glencoe

This 2 day workshop retreat is based in the incredible landscapes of Glencoe in Scotland, an epic and unforgettable location to explore light, along with composition and moment, to create some breathtaking images in a spectacular landscape. The weather can be changeable in the highlands, which provides the perfect opportunity to create dramatic portraits amongst the rivers and mountains, and become adaptable to how things evolve on a wedding day.

The workshop is set up as a retreat, meaning we will all be in the same location, which allows the fostering of new friendships and sharing of valuable experience with fellow wedding photographers. Based at the legendary Clachaig Inn in the heart of Glencoe, the quintessential Scottish Inn. We have 10 rooms pre-booked, please visit the link below to book your room, referencing the workshop.
