WALES
A magical Celtic landscape where mountains meet the sea.

Cotton Fields and Tryfan
A bank of cotton grass drifting in the wind, with Tryfan and the Glyders in the background. I love this angle fo try, as it seems sharper from this angle than any other.

With snow on the mountain, and fair weather, a trip up the mountain just had to be be made and what a day it turned out to be. Hazy sunshine all day with a soft glow, bitterly cold with powdery snow, just magical, and one of those days that stays with you forever. One happy photographer, and an equally happy spaniel for company.

Ynys Llandwyn, Anglesey
Ever since I saw pictures of this magical island, I knew I had to go there, to see those stairs winding their way up to the perfectly conical lighthouse.
The island is tidal, and only accessible by foot with a few miles from the nearest car park, so a visit takes planning, but this just added to the intrigue. On this occasion, tides were high for sunrise, so I decided to stay the night before, camping responsibly on this spot. What a view to wake up to.
The name Llanddwyn means "The church of St. Dwynwen". She is the Welsh patron saint of lovers, making her the Welsh equivalent of St. Valentine. I was certainly spellbound not his visit and have returned many times, but have not been blessed with light like this since.

Slate
In Mid Wales, by the slate quarries of Abergynolwyn, farmers used thin offcuts of lsat rot make the fences, a unique and striking material I have never seen anywhere else.

Lying hidden in the depths of Dinorwic Quarry is this crater, known to many as "Dali's Hole', as the hole is more often than not full of water, and the dead trees would eerily poke out from the surface through the deep azure water. On this list the water was fortunately Lowe enough to explore, and the waterfall adds another element of mystery.
