A boho chic vintage wedding in West Bay

In West Bay, Dorset, two old train carriages and a station sit almost incongruously, with no railway, yet delve deeper and you find their presence is instrumental to the history of this beautiful seaside town, until the railway was closed in 1930. Nearly 100 years on, the platform, buildings and carriages now form the incredible Platform Restaurant, a brilliant seafood restaurant, which is also the perfect space for a wedding, drawing on history, romance, and beautifully styled vintage chic interiors.
I’d never shot at the Platform Restaurant before, but I just love weddings that are totally different, so Georgia and Lee’s wedding was right up my street, or on my tracks! The carriages created really interesting long spaces to shoot, and beautiful styling makes it pretty form the start, indeed one of the main reasons they chose the Platform Restaurant was because it was already beautifully styled and decorated, as a wedding venue, you just need to turn up.
The perfect quirky and unique venue to take you back in time.
The weather wasn’t kind to us, it has to be said, but with puddles on the platform, rain in the air, there was a certain sense of romance which evoked a sense of days gone, by, all we needed was a little steam drifting round the platform, and a few whistles. And as for the food, wow! The Platform Restaurant is a restaurant first, and an incredible one at that – some of the best food I have ever experienced at a wedding, with the friendliest staff you could ask for.
Being a station which was built to take passengers to the sea, the beach was only a stones throw away, and the rain didn’t put us off heading over for a wander by the waves, underneath the iconic West bay cliffs, made even more famous by Broadchurch. Then back to the train, and with the smallest yet cosiest dancefloor I have ever experienced at a wedding, the night kicked off in style with some serious rock and roll which fitted the vibes perfectly, with the carriages gently rolling as Georgia and Lee partied the night away!
